The scholarship, which is offered for a second year, is linked with the theme of the 2018 International Women’s Day #PressforProgress, and is designed to empower businesswomen, help nurture female talent, and support efforts to progress gender equality.
The initiative was announced by Edinburgh Business School (Scotland), which is the graduate school of business of Heriot-Watt University, and the 30% Club, which launched as a campaign in the UK in 2010 with a goal of achieving a minimum of 30% women on FTSE-100 boards.
On offer to entrepreneurial women is a full tuition scholarship worth around GBP 22,000. The scholarship covers all study materials and teaching sessions.

Requirements
Applications can be submitted until 31 May 2018.
Applicants should be women who have met the admission requirements, been offered, and accepted a place to study on MBA programmes in Edinburgh, Dubai, or Malaysia. For more details about the requirements for the specific region, consult Edinburgh Business School’s scholarship website. Generally, to apply for admission for the MBA programme of their choice, applicants should have:
- a first- or second-class honours degree or equivalent qualification recognised by Heriot-Watt University
- English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5
- at least two years’ post-qualifying full-time professional work experience.
In addition, applicants are required to write an 800 word essay on the topic:
‘With reference to your own personal aspirations, what does it take for women to become more effective as tomorrow’s business leaders in tomorrow’s markets?’
Women still underrepresented
EBS Executive Dean, Professor Heather McGregor said:
The International Women's Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women but also to remind ourselves how much more still needs done to move closer to gender parity.
Professor Heather McGregor added that across the world women were underrepresented in decision-making positions, particularly in politics and business.
